Chloe: All my work
is under his cyber lock and key.

Pete: Well, can't you just work some of your
virtuaI voodoo and get him (I copied that from DVD subtitles but should it not be 'them'?)back?

Chloe: Short of (She's short of/has no tricks left?) a direct hit
from a massive virus... all of these files will forever be
in the clutches of Citizen Lex. Does she refer to some character?

get him back: take revenge

short of a direct hit: only a perfect attack will work.

Is this an idiom or what? Because all I am able to find is that 'short of'

means you have a lack of sth. Can someone explain it to me with more details.

P.S. I got it. Thanks, Vorpar!
