"They got everything from China."

Yeah, they got democracy from there too? Anonymous come out of your hole, and tell me your name, and we can have a real discussion. Are you just another ignorant redneck like America's idiot of a president? Learn how to spell "holy," and I will tell you that Taiwan is as far apart as you can get from China without leaving the culture. And Anonymous from two posts above, the one with the unsourced quote, America has already said it will back Taiwan in any war--so really, does it think that Taiwan is part of China? Who the *** is America to say anything anyway? Them idiots in the White House can't even take care of their own country--look at Katrina, Hurricane or look up Orleans, New-- and they wanna meddle in the matters of Iraq, they wanna meddle in the matters of Afghanistan, they wanna meddle in matters of Asia pretty much...so they can stop China's booming economy and also dig up all the oil in the Middle East. George Bull, excuse me, Bush, makes me wanna take the "American" out of the "Asian-American" that I am.

I am writing a novel right now about the aftermath of a Chinese-USA war over the issue of Taiwan. Taiwan isn't worth a nuclear war. China is progressing just fine as it is. It would be a horrendous stupidity to risk a confrontation with the USA over an island it could just as well do without. If indeed China wants Taiwan back, it should entice it to come back willingly. Have Taiwan request unification just as Texas willingly requested to become a part of the United States because it was in its best interest Same goal achieved without the insanity of war.

You are absolutely right! Of course Taiwan should listen to mainlanders because A COMPLETE CHINA CANNOT BE WITHOUT TAIWAN. And if they do get seperated there will be no choice but war. WAR! Brothers against Brothers I don't want that to happen!

It would be much more than just brother against brother. It would bring Rusiia, North  Korea, Europe,  Japan the USA and a host of other countries into it. That's why it is very essential that extreme caution be used in dealing with thisa issue.

I've read most of the comments and posts within the forum. I know this is a lot easier to say then to accomplish, but can't we just all get along.  I'm Chinese with many Taiwanese friends, there are already so much suffering in this world, eg Iraq, US, South America. I just hope that one day we can end this arguement.

Speaking as an outsider's point, most of my friends and I think that Taiwan has a strong standpoint since the Chinese government clearly needs to beat itself into shape up to this point. But it seems so if you look at it objectively into the economy, Taiwan has shown much dependence on PRC. It could of course stand on its own but then again it is beneficial that it remains in relationship with PRC in some alternative way.

I have seen very extreme points from both sides and most of them have rendered different levels of subjectivity to the matter. The Chinese seems to take it as is that Taiwan is just part of it, terriotorywise at least; and the Taiwanese definitely have strong opinions about the Chinese, like we all do in someway or the other. All in all, Taiwan could do all that they want but China is on the rise and should be realizing sooner or later that Taiwan is not an essential part of their growth.

God knows what would have to this argument and I think Europe and America would only be happy to see them both going down or at least with slower growths. it's only for them to realize so.

Hey fellow anonymous     let me tell you something  Taiwan and China ARE currently seperated, if you didn't know!
I am of Taiwanese descent, and while I grew up in the States, I have lived in Taiwan for the past ten years, so I think I understand the situation fairly well.
We DO NOT take orders from the Chinese government right now. We have different governments. I think that while Taiwan's government has a lot of problems,
which government doesn't? Its not up to China to decide what we should do and what we shouldn't. Is there a good reason for China to take over Taiwan?
I really can't think of one. China is making huge advancements in many aspects, and Taiwan is not essential to its further developments. If you say that the people in Taiwan are also Chinese, then why don't all the different ethnic groups in the world start forming countries of their own? Because it's pointless, that's why. Neither side would have benefits that I can think of. Taiwan currently has a more advanced society overall, but I believe that China will overtake Taiwan in a few years. So what's the point of taking over?

Taiwan is an independant country in the facts
- own state, executive and army
- chinese people need a visa to go to Taiwan

China had lots of trouble with Taiwan because of US intervention. I think without the US supporting Taiwan, Taiwanesse will have no one to back them up, and will listen to China, or the Chinese military will invade Taiwan.
