What do you calll food that gives you a sore throat if you eat a lot? I'm not sure it makes sense to natives. For example, if you have a lot of peanuts or peanut butter, the next day you'll probably feel your throat is dry and sore.

I hope it makes sense.
Thanks.

No. It's not an alergic reaction. It happens if you consume too much dry food like peanuts. Have you had a lot of peanuts and as a result, your voice is hoarse the next day?

I would say:

That - whatever the food is - doesn't agree with me.

Onions don't agree with my stomach = eating onions results in an upset stomach (for me).

Cheese doesn't agree with me, I get headaches after eating it.

Peanuts don't agree with me. I always get a sore throat after eating them.

Thanks, Optilang. By the way, do you experience what I experience? Maybe it's a mild allergy. (:^)) Huh? Is allergy hereditary?

(Singapore/Malaysian English) Heaty food is food that the Chinese believe can cause an inflamed condition, or make one worse, and should not be taken if you have a cough or sore throat, eg durian, chocolate, spicy food, or fried food. (Times-Chambers Essential Dictionary)

I don't think there is an English word for 'heaty'. The reason, I believe, is that doctors believe a cough or sore throat is caused by germs/viruses, and not by what we eat.
