Sir,
I have live in Japan for 3 years.
I have lived in Japan since 1942.
Here "since" and "for" are working as adverb or conjuction.
Please clear me .

I'm not interested much in what word belongs to what part of speech, but as far as I know both of 'for' and 'since' in your sentences are classified as
prepositions
in most dictionaries (including OED and Webster).
for X = during the time span of X
since X = during the time from X up to now.
