in connection with reading skills, what is the difference between skimming a text and scanning a text?

Skim: read superficially and skippingly.
scan: examine closely.

Maj, what do you mean by reading superficially and skippingly??

Maybe what i mean is that you are looking for specific words, information. You aren't interested in reading the whole text. That's why you might want to make jumps over irrelevant information.

Also, I would like to add. Skimming is when you just want to get a quick (rough) overview of the text without worrying about the details. On the other hand, scanning is when you examine the text quickly, but closely and methodically.
