He has some sort of European accent, possibly German. The last part is "... couldn't affect it permanently", but I can't figure out the start. It sounds like "A/the bloach", but that means nothing to me. Is there any more context?

He is talking to a lady about her horse riding accident. He said she spent some weeks in the hospital, that she's still weak.

Sorry, I listened to this again, but even knowing the context I can't make out the first part of the sentence. I've no idea what he's saying there.
