and your point would certainly be well taken if there was anybody around here who has posted a riddle and added stipulations afterwards. Now, since i haven't dont that you still haven't made your point.

you have you say that he doesn't have to go anywhere with me well he doesn't have to answer a ditrect question either he doesn't HAVE to do anything but the reader is told that you are allowed to ask of him one question and the assumption would be that he would respond to that question if he wasn't going to answer your question then the whole riddle would be moot.

and asnwering a question is, which he is known for doing, is something completely diffirent from joining you on a hike, wouldn't you agree?
I could state, and rightly argue for it that your suggestion is a request and not really a question. The question "can you walk with me the way to life" could be answered "Yes I can" or "No I can't" without really meaning he has to walk with you. So what you're wanting is for him to come with you, which is a request.

Don't get me wrong im not trying to be at all condescending I do understandand appreciate the logistical point that you are making my disagreement lies more or less in the fact that no matter what question you ask him no matter how in depth you ask it or about whom you ask it; about the next person the last person whatever, you will never be certain whether or not you are that second person you will never know ihow many people he has spoken to therefore there is no cut and dried answer to the riddle.

I have read the solution on the previous page and that hole still applies, that solution would work if you knew for certain which number person you were and who he lies to, it says every second person to both his lies and his truths even if you were to assume that it implied every other person you still don't know whether the lies or truths correlate with the evens or the odds. In response to adams' response how do you know that he isn't going to lie about what he would tell the next person the more in depth you ask the question the more tangled the web becomes.

well. the thing is, you don't have to know if he's lying or telling the truth. The only thing you have to know is he will tell the next person the opposite.
Based on this you can formulate a question that leads you to the conclusion to go opposite the way he tells/shows you to go regardless if he's really telling the truth or not.

yes he will tell the next person the opposite what he will tell you but you do not know what he will tell the next person. Even if you ask him what he will tell the next person there is no certainty he will tell you the truth.
Its his turn to lie you ask him what he will tell the next person who asks where to go he shows you say path a but he is lying so he would actually tell the next person b which means you chould take b
Its his turn for truth you ask him what he will tell the next person who asks him where to go he says path b which means you would take path a because he would be lying to the next person
see you don't know.

Let's make this simple.
You ask him:
If there came another person after me and asked for the way to life. Which way would you indicate him to go?"
Case A:
He will tell you the truth. And the truth is that he will lie to the next person coming there. Hence you don't want to take the road he's indicating.
Case B:
He will lie to you. So the road that leads to life, which he would rightly indicate to the next person, is not hte one he's showing you. Yet again he's showing you the wrong path. And you take the other road.

i got cut off my batt on my lap top died i understand that solution I do but the point I was about to make is you can't even be certain that he is aware of this lying phenomena if he knows that he lies to every other person then yes that solution holds but if he doesn't then.. well I think you can see where i am going that was what I was beginning to get at before.
