1. Along the curve of islands known as the Florida Keys lies a reef of living coral, the only one of a kind in the continental United States.

What's wrong with the underlined part?

2. Because he is absent when his rivals voted against his proposal, Selby is worried about missing future meetings of the board of directors.

Again, what's wrong with the underlined part? and is the idiom 'worried of' correct, or does it have to be 'worried about'?

3. In those cities in which public transportation is adequate, fewer traffic problems occur and pedestrians are rarely involved in accidents.

Shouldn't the underlined part be 'where'? Is 'in which' right as well?

4. What comes after 'preoccupation'? by? of?

5. By simply entering an Internet website or calling a tollfree number, a catalog order can be placed for almost anything from cheesecakes to fully equipped desktop computers.

The underlined part is corrected to "you can place a catalog order".

Why is the original wrong or a worse choice?

6. Apparently impressed with our plans, the foundation awarded Carlos and I a grant to establish a network of community centers throughout the city.

What's wrong with the underlined part?

1. its kind

2. It needs to be in the past.

3. I agree - "in which" seems okay to me too.

4. by or with

5. Who is it that calls the number? The order, or you?

6. Remove "Carlos and" from the sentence. How would you write it then?

Thanks for the help!

So for 6, would it be 'Carlos and me' or 'me and Carlos'?

For 2, why is it past tense when 'Selby is worried' is in present tense?

The rivals voted in the past however.

Put Carlos first.

Okay?

Sorry, I've more questions.

1. After marching for four hours in temperatures exceeding ninety degrees, the band members were as soaked as if they had marched through a rainstorm.

I understand why the underlined part is right, but I don't know why another choice, 'having marched' is wrong.

2. Although the politician was initially very sensitive to be criticized by the press, he quickly became more confident about responding to reporters' sometimes pointed questions.

What's wrong with the underlined part?

Hmm.  Where did GG go?

1.  You need as if.
2.  You need the noun-like form of the verb after sensitive to, that is, you need the gerund being:

very sensitive to being criticized
