These questions I encountered on my final exam

1) Why did you send the children away?

I won't have them __ soccer near my rose beds!

a) play

b) playing

Trouble is here. I couldn't decide one of them, please help me

2) Are you satisfied with your new secrectary?

__ I like her, she's not the best person for the job

a) Whereas

b) as much as

I wonder why a doesn't make any sense, please help

Re: have sb doing sth???

I'd use:

as much as

but whereas is possible:

-----

 whereas

ALTHOUGH <whereas it is quite dangerous to draw conclusions ... one cannot avoid being struck with some gross changes -- Abram Kardiner>

http://unabridged.merriam-webster.com

---

However, other meanings for whereas such as

--

 whereas

considering that : in view of the fact that : SINCE

when in fact : while on the contrary : the case being in truth that -- used to introduce a statement in opposition or contrast to a preceding or sometimes following statement

------

would make me avoid it here.

But I have seen have sb do sth, too. So what's the difference between the two?
Whereas, means inasmuch, but how about the other? it does mean "although", we cannot say the meaning of a word if we don't put it in the right context. True thing happen to apart from, it has two opposite meaning, so I think the same happen here in whereas.
Could you please go over it with more details?
