I've tried in the past, but the media misinformation continues to gather pace like some ill-founded rumor. It's dangerous, because it causes unjust criticism.

What does pace mean in this context? I guess ill-founded means not serious?

Hi,

I've tried in the past, but the media misinformation continues to gather pace like some ill-founded rumor. It's dangerous, because it causes unjust criticism.

What does pace mean in this context? Speed. 'To gather pace' is to gain speed, to speed up.

I guess ill-founded means not serious? No. It means 'without any correct foundation'. The idea is that there is no truth in the rumour.

Best wishes, Clive
