Can I say,

9i) When the thief snatched Susan's handbag, he quickly sped. / quickly sped away / off the shop.

ii) When the thief snatched away Susan's handbag, the thief ran away. Luckily, two men ran out (of the shop) and chased the thief.

I would choose "sped". How about (ii) ?
