Any difference between

sporting goods vs. sport good?

I dont think there is any even though there were 30,000 hits for sporting and 500,000 for sport. What do you think?

Hi,

Any difference between

sporting goods vs. sport goods?

I dont think there is any even though there were 30,000 hits for sporting and 500,000 for sport. What do you think?

There's really not a lot of difference, but the normal idiomatic phrase in my experience is 'sporting goods'. eg 'This store sells sporting goods'.

Best wishes, Clive

In MY English there is no such phrase as "sport good". I wouldn't have a clue what you were referring to. Although, in theory, "good" can be used in its singular form, in practice it never is.

Also "sport" is a noun, not an adjective. To convert it to an adjective use "sports" or "sporting".

First of all, you should search/google for
"sporting goods"
(in question marks, in order to group up the terms)
not just for
"sporting"

The results are clear:
627,000 for "sport goods"
28,400,000 for "sporting goods"

The hits for "sport goods" are mostly coming from non-native sites.

Yes I checked goole hits and I think I misread the numbers.

The results are clear:
627,000 for "sport goods" (incorrect English)
28,400,000 for "sporting goods" (correct English)
2,970,000 for "sports goods" (correct English)
