The following is about a picture drawn by Bruegel. What does "stop the eye" mean?
"For instance, the perspective lines lead back, into the picture, but the woman in the middle left,
watering the plants, stops the eye and directs it forward again to the picture surface."
As your eyes look around, and 'into' the perspective of, the picture, they pause when they arrive at the picture of the woman.
