In this context it sounds like a musical term - perhaps ability to keep the same piece of music going for longer than originally intended?

The context here does seem to refer to the musical term 'stretch'.  Maybe this would explain  http://www.mmk.ei.tum.de/persons/ter/top/scalestretch.html

Wow! Looks a bit complex. Tongue Tied [:S]

Big Smile [:D]  As the sentence (so aptly) states, one has to be a great musician......(I couldn't understand much of that either) Wink [;)]

'In order to be a great musician the musician has to have the ability to STRETCH and Prince can certainly stretch.'

Does it refers to GREW GROW, or develope develop new experiences?

Yes, it's as simple as that.  The ability to stretch is the ability to push oneself to accept new challenges.

Corporations in the U.S., for example, establish financial "stretch goals" annually.  That means that departments must try to do their work for 10% (or whatever percent)  less the cost originally estimated for the year.  They must stretch - accept the new challenge.
