Traveling abroad can make one feel a stronger sense of national identity/recognition.

I wonder if they are equally idiomatic to say "a stronger sense of national identity" and "a stronger sense of national recognition."

Hi,

Traveling abroad can make one feel a stronger sense of national identity/recognition.

I wonder if they are equally idiomatic to say "a stronger sense of national identity" and "a stronger sense of national recognition."

'Identity' in this context focuses on the person's awareness of self.

'Recognition' focuses on the idea that the person is aware that other people see the national qualities.

I recommend 'identity'. 'Natonal identity' is a pretty standard phrase.
