Hi teachers,

Please explain the meaning of TAKE AWAY in the sentence below :

Despite the sacrifices made during the year, the teachers say they will take away unforgettable memories. On the final day of the school year, local residents often bring chicken, bowls of rice, bottles of wine and pairs of chopsticks to give thanks to the teachers.

Thanks in advance

They will leave with unforgettable memories. What they will take with them (in their hearts and minds) are these memories.
