Hi,

"Who is her audience? What can she take for granted about them?"

What is the meaning of "take for granted" in this sentence?

Thanks,

When it is knowledge of the heart, it is a friend; When knowledge of the body, it is a burden. -Mevlana-

In this context it means 'what can she assume to be true about them?'
So for example, she could take it for granted that they are all human!

Cambridge says it's "to believe something to be the truth without even thinking about it"

Most often this this phrase is used to mean that you expect something done without appreciating the amount of work required to get it done.  A good example is a child expecting the dinner to be delivered at the table every evening by his mother.  He may get so used to having it served that he will "take it for  granted" and not appreciate the work his mother have to do to prepare the meal day in and day out.

To err is human, to forgive divine. 잘못을 저지르는 것은 인간이지만 용서할수있는 것은 하늘과 같은것.
