I have a legal background but am interested in switching careers to teaching English.  I´m wondering what sort of demand there is for teachers of legal English in Spain particularly, and elsewhere where demand might be high.  Thanks for any information.

Hello,

Do you want to teach it only in Spain?  Are you  a native english-speaking person?

If so, it would be a good idea to get an English teaching certificate such as ICELT / DipTefla - DELTA. There is high demand now all over the world for Legal English teaching.

I came to Madrid six years ago having previously worked as a lawyer in the UK for 14 years. I now have a successful business giving mainly legal English classes to groups and individuals. If you're still looking send me an email XXXX

This could be a really good thread! We could share some ideas, offer encouragement, and network for opportunities. However, you should remember to register and give some contact details in your profile so that we can pursue some connnections!

I have found that teaching legal english, as a former lawyer can be a very interesting and lucrative business. You can charge more than you might normally get as a teacher, but it is still a teaching job, which isn't lawyer's pay, for sure. Another thing is that lawyers are generally slow to trust and it does take time to develop a client base. As a lawyer/teacher you really need to start teaching and get your teaching chops down first. Lawyer's can be very demanding students so you should have your basic teaching experience out of the way. You need to be confident and certain of your teaching methods and then take on some lawyers, little by little. You will develop a very valuable teaching practice as there is a great demand out there, as the world gets more and more connected, through English.

If you have a second language, another very marketable product, once you have these students, is to help them with emails, letters, and contract translations.
