You have a land line into the home, and a handset to use on it.

Hi guys,

In Canada, people normally say to me '444-5555 is my cell, and 444-12234 is my home phone".

If I was to be pedantic [God forbid], I would say that this is technically "*** is my cell phone number and *** is my home phone number", but that in normal usage it is elided.

The problem as to what to call the physical object is not resolved. Looking at BT's sales site, it lists "corded phones", "cordless phones" and "video phone". Each of these is a "handset".
