Tense sequence

Hi valued teachers!

i came across this question in my book.

e.g. I __ (not join) his team if i had known he had such a fiery temper.

the answer given: I would not have joined his team if i had known he has fiery temper.

Can help me decipher why the latter part is changed to he has instead of the former he had.

In this case, is the answer given used to illustrate the reality, like what has happened now and not referring to the past.

Also, can the answer be I would not have joined his team if i had known he had such a fiery temper. If yes, this is referring to an incident that happened in the past?

so to double check, in this case it is the book that printed the had to has wrongly?
