Hi,

Are these tenses for an diary entry correct? Please correct it.

I was in *** on a Saturday morning. I went into a church that had a morning service and attended the service. Not a lot of people were there but offered a serene atmosphere that allowed me to pray earnestly. It has been some time since I had a chance to attend a morning service on a Saturday morning and felt great about having atttended one -- considering the fact that it offered a great experience afterall. After the service, I went to a nearby store to buy a cup of coffee. It was freshly brewed and I felt good drinking a cup that rendered a great aroma.

I am troubled by the mixed use of present perfect and  past. Help.

I would change it to had to be consistent: It had been some time since I had ...   but having said that, I have no problem with the present perfect. To me, the use of present perfect here jumps to present time. I still prefer to use past perfect. Just my two cents.

This is more difficult than it seems to be at first glance.  I will try answering it, though.

It has been a long time since = good.  We are talking about sometime in the past until now.

I had a chance to attend a morning...= I would say "have had."  My thought is that we are talking about an experience--a nonspecific time in the past

Think of another sentence :  It has been a long time since I have eaten

The rest is okay, and I think it was the above part that was confusing.

Anyone else have any different ideas?
