Hi,

I don't know the tenses to use for a personal reflection piece would be the same basically to that of a diary. Is it?? I have written a short piece. Please check for tense accuracy. Can you tell me how I can get a proper handle on tense uses for this type of writing?

My studies at XXX School were pleasant. I completed my courses on time with high marks. I made a lot of friends and formed some lasting friendships. My favorite moments here are Spaghetti-Eating Days and Food Days... Now it is May my last month at XXX. The time has passed fast. It was time to leave but I only had scholastic medal. Most of my friends got at least two medals. At the May meeting, the principal called out the medal winner and I found out it was me.

Now, I have nothing to be ashamed of. I have two scholastic medals. I am proud of myself. I will miss XXX School, Spaghetti-Eating Days and Mrs. XXX.

These are some of my memories of XXX School.

You are speaking of an event (school attendance) which began in the past, but has not yet been completed. Use past for those parts that are finished (e.g. completion of courses) and present perfect for those that are conceivably still happening now (e.g. pleasant time, making friends). Use present for 'now' segments (e.g. time to leave)

My studies at *** School have been pleasant. I completed my courses on time with high marks. I have made a lot of friends and formed some lasting friendships. My favorite moments here have been Spaghetti-Eating Days and Food Days. Now it is May, my last month at ***. The time has passed fast. It is time to leave, but I only received one [?] scholastic medal. Most of my friends got at least two medals. At the May meeting, the principal called out the medal winner and I found out it was me.

Now, I have nothing to be ashamed of. I have two scholastic medals. I am proud of myself. I will miss *** School, Spaghetti-Eating Days and Mrs. ***.

These are some of my memories of *** School.
