I've read the book and watched the movie!  I don't know why, but I've never forgotten it. The first time it passed here, in my city, it has more than twenty years.

Nowadays, that story would be impossible, cuz in that time a woman had to be pure; but now it isn't too important if the real love exist.

I have read it, but it was along time ago, I remember thinking it was very dark. Not a fun book.
Do I remember correctly that it was considered a bit scandalous in it's day ?

Words don't have meanings, meanings have words.

You are absolutely right!  It wasn't appreciated at all by the people in those days.  I'm so thrilled to know that at least two people have read the novel.

In fact, the title is in my language, I don't know  the original title. The movie is with Nastassia Kinski, she was very young in that time of course, and the man is Leigh Lawson. It was directed by Roman Polanski.

I will traslate  - It's  (Tess - A lesson of life) I think there is a new version with Justine Waddell, I have not whatched that.
