A: Maybe they are electing a new general.

B: Well, if the sergeant's running. I'm not so sure if I'd vote for him or not.

A: That goes double.

1. Do "that goes double" and "that makes two of us" mean the same thing?

2. Which one is more common in spoken English?

3. What does go mean in "that goes double"? does it mean become?

4. What does make mean in "that makes two of us"?

Thanks,

I think it means "I feel that way twice as strongly as you do." So they are not exactly the same meaning.

They're both pretty common.

If you have an idea, and I have the same idea, two of us have the same idea. That makes (creates the situation) in which we both have the same idea.

I'll have a Coke.

That makes two of us. (We will both have a Coke.)
