Hello,
The pronoun which is used as a relative pronoun (a noun substitue used to introduce clauses) refers to animals and things. Which is often used in nonessential clauses, which are set off by commas and are not necessary to the meaning of the sentence:
example: The patient has a large abdominal aortic aneurysm that is very large, which all his physicians and surgeon think should be repaired.
The pronoun that is used almost exclusively to introuduce essential clauses(clauses that are necessary for the understanding of the sentence and not set off by commas).

1.When the subject of the sentence is the life wihtout people or no life, we should use which.
ex:He likes the house which has many windows.
I like the house which he lives in.
The book of which the cover is green is mine.
2.When four rules appear, we should uae that.
a. when the antecetent is people and animals, we should use that.
ex:Isaw a boy and his dog that were walking in the park.
b. when there are the superlative degree or the ordinal number before the antecetent ,we should use that.
ex:Henry Ford was the first man that built cars.
This is the most interesting book that I have ever read.
c. when there are the only, the very, the same, all or the word consisted of no, any and every before the antecetent ,we should use that.
ex:He was the only person that knew how to open the safe.
This is the very book that I have been looking for.
Anyone that listens to to him is a fool.
All the passengers that were injured were carried to tje hospital.
d. when there are what, which or what before the antecetent ,we should use that.
ex:Who is the man that has white hair?
Which is the book that you borrow from the library?

when the subject is a person, you can use that as a pronoun but you can't use which.
when the subject is a thing, you can use both of them.
