This is what I hear for the first one:
- Might have been a failing of mine, (to tend) to talk down to, 'cause I'd known him as a younger kid.
I'm not sure about the part in parentheses, but that's what it sounds like to me.
-------------------------------
And this is what I hear for the second one:
- And somewhere, it might be around...it's in Liverpool, that record, that's the actual first recording we ever made.

I don't know why, but some words sound different to my ear:
And somewhere, [they / it] might be around... it's in Liverpool, [some of / somewhere] that record, that's the actual first recording they ever made.
And I keep hearing two things at the same time (they/it). I wonder what percepion problem that is.

I'd agree with you about the words I highlighted in blue, Kooyeen.

Yay! I got something right, lol.
But I guess you "guess", right? I mean, I would choose the words in
blue too, because they are the ones that are more likely to make sense
in that context (it, somewhere). But when I listen closely, I can hear
no w-sound in the blue "somewhere", and it actually sounds more like "some of" to me. And in "it/they might be around", I think I am able to hear both it and a quick they. Maybe it's because the it starts with a kind of glide and a change of speed, eit might be around. Can anyone else imagine a "they" there, forgetting about the context?
I'm interested in this kind of perception phenomenon, and I will definitely post some tricky audio clips soon to test "my theories", lol.

Hi Coloraday
I heard something in that spot the first time I listened, but forgot to include it when I posted my first response. I was in a hurry -- I don't have much free time at the moment -- so that was a careless omission on my part.
