The best grammar book ever

Would you know if the book "A Grammar of Contemporary English", by Randolph Quirk, S. Greenbaum, G. Leech and J. Svartvik, is similar/same to the book "A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Languag" , by Randolph Quirk, Jan Svartvik, Geoffry Leech, Sidney Greenbaum?

"A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language" is much longer than "A Grammar of Contempory English." This second book came out originally in the early 70s, I think. I'm not familiar with it. I do know that Greenbaum and Quirk's "A Student's Grammar of the English Language" is a shortened version of the "Comprehensive Grammar" mentioned above. Unless you're very advanced, I would recommend the "Student's Grammar." For teachers and advanced students, the "Comprehensive Grammar" is good.
My favorite book for studying verb usage is Michael Lewis's brilliant "The English Verb." He writes that "it is intended mostly for teachers who are teaching English as a foreign language, and also for students who have been confused by teachers, textbooks or other grammar books"(p. 7). George Yule's excellent "Explaining English Grammar" works well for a lot of students who have been disappointed by other approaches.
