Hi. I was studying with this method during a year. It was 6 years ago, and now a days can say that it is the best method for me. After this, I studied in others academies, and with other diferentes and interesting methods, such is opening, particular teacher, etc But definitly it was the best method.

I have taught Callan method for two years, and before that communicative approach.  The Callan method is good for vocabulary not English. Most students learn a lot of words, but when they need to speak, independently, they have troubles.  That is why I think there are split opinions about it.

Yeah, and besides, telling students to answer the same questions all the time (and repeating them like a parrotSmile [:)]) testifies to the fact that the way the method works is like this: Treat your student like a fool and ask him to repeat things after you even if he/she doesn't understand them. Under no circumstances should you encourage any creativity on their part.

Unfortunately, this is sad, but true. Apart from that, I wish luck every teacher who manages to teach Callan method for more than three years Smile [:)]. Your vocal cords are bound to ask for retirement then.......... Smile [:)]

Heh, and you dare claim that the method has produced satisfactory results in your case. Judging by the way you have written the previous two sentences (I just want to say that it was pathetic), it ought to be stated that the method is one big piece of crap. This is my opinion - the opinion of a person who has taught this method for a year. Smile [:)] Greetings.

I taught using this method in Brazil and it really does work... it can become very boring for students if the momentum is broken and they have to repeat things too many times.  It's not totally successful with EVERYONE but it does work for at least 90% of people.  Teaching many classes a day can become very boring too.  You're basically reading questions from a book and enticing the answers back from the students.  Very easy but becomes very boring. You start with very easy questions and the questions grow and become more complex and before you know it the students are speaking English. You also have to give dictation which gives them writing proactice and of course reading.  In the first few weeks the students fly forward but when it starts to slow down they are difficult to motivate.  Not a good idea to try and mix other methods in with it either. Just do the method.

The Callan Method is a total success. And works. That`s the most important thing. There are so many arrogant teachers saying the same thing: "it's not updated", "tiring", etc.

When I read this kind of thing, I feel sorry for these poor teachers. Didn't understand the method at all. Probabily are just "readers of questions" and not real first class Callan Method Teachers.

I worked with it for more than a year in Brooklyn, USA.  From a teaching standpoint, it's not very good--it allows little room for originalty or thought on the part of students or teachers and the material itself is seriously outdated.  And the people I worked for were sneaky and underhanded.  They knew nothing about teaching (and barely spoke English themselves) and tended to blame others for their own lack of competence.

Of course, motivated students will always learn.  My advice would be to add to, or supplement the Callan material with other things..

How do you define 'total success'? Also, what exactly is a 'first class Callan Method teacher'?
