The Federal Reserve Bank was set up so that it can operate without direct political control and so that certain economic decisions are taken out of the hands of politicians. This may be a good thing or a bad thing according to your point of view. The US is not the only country with such a system. The bank may reach its decisions in secret, but that does not mean it is the centre of a conspiracy. Of course the bank is part of a capitalist system, but it is no more nor less sinister than any other financial institution, private or governmental.
