Hi Avangi,

I dislike or even hate the Bush in many respects. Although this is against your feeling about the Bush, I have to admit that you are a person who is worthy to discuss problems. Thanks a lot.

“BTW, Avangi, by CEOs, you actually mean the presidents, right? ”
Hi, Osee.  I was thinking of the leaders of the big financial corporations, who made themselves rich by subverting the interests of the people they were supposed to "protect."  Sometimes the title is "President and CEO (Chief Executive Officer)."  In some organizations, they are separate people.  Sometimes the chairman of the board of directors holds the power.  I don't really know that much about the titles in different types of companies.
The same is true of countries.  In some countries the "president" is the chief executive, while in other countries the "president" has no power, and the "prime minister" is the chief executive.  When countries set up their constitutions, they determine who will have the power and what he will be called.

“I believe a majority of Americans do not want to see Iraq war. Since the USA government claims the country is built on democracy, I do not understand why the majority's opinion failed to be obayed. ”
If you think about it, you may notice that simple majority rule can sometimes be dangerous.  What we hope for instead is a truly representative government.  The voice of the people resides in a body of lawmakers, who (if we're lucky) are smart people of "good" character, who have the interests of the people they represent at heart.  They think and fight and argue and negotiate over the issues, making laws which protect the rights and interests of as many people as possible.

In the state of California, we have a "crazy" law which allows any citizen to to make up a law.  If he gets enough people to sign a petition supporting his law, then it's placed on the ballot in the next general election, and all of the citizens get to vote on it.  If it passes, it becomes law.  That's what I'd call simple majority rule.  The Governor does not have veto power over such laws, nor can the legislature revoke them.

If somebody didn't like (let's say) red-headed people, he could write a law saying that all red-headed people will be put in jail, and their property will be auctioned off and the money divided up among all the citizens.  It's theoretically possible that such a law could be supported and passed by a majority of the voters.

But then, thank God, some group like the ACLU would file a case in court, claiming that this law is "unconstitutional," or in conflict with other existing law.  The court is then obliged to settle the issue on the basis of existing law.  Their decision may then be appealed, etc. etc.

Presidents often appoint Attorneys General and Supreme Court Justices who agree with their flaky ideas, so the courts will support the president in a battle.

Re the war, the Congress has given the executive branch (the president) some extraordinary "discretionary" powers to act as he sees fit when he thinks national security is involved.

Hi, Osee.  Thanks for the kind words.  Actually I was thinking about the senior Bush, who was once head of the CIA.  Sometimes they call them Bush 41 and Bush 43, as the son was the forty-third president.  (Clinton was in between.)  They're also sometimes distinguished as "George W. Bush" and George H. W. Bush, "Herbert Walker" being the father.

I never supported the son's presidency.  I think Cheney has been the real president.  Bush is basically a reformed alcoholic, and has all the attendant pig-headed holier-than-thou qualities.  I don't know much about his brother Jeb (Governor of Florida) but I like the rest of his family.

But I do like it when the presidency and congress are in the hands of opposite parties, because not so many laws get passed, and it's more difficult to slip things through without anyone finding out about it. (I believe when we decided to invade Iraq, Congress was in the hands of the Republicans, but most of the Democrats were persuaded to go along with it.)

100% agreed! GWB may be a good guy but definitely not a good president. I think, personally, he may go down in the history book as the worst president ever. Look at his achievements, or the lack thereof.

NAFTA –Soon Mexican truck drivers will be allowed to operate 18- wheelers on American highways.  That means more jobs loss.  What about public safety !

Border policy – wide open! Everyday, hundreds if not thousands are attempted to cross the 2000 mile border between the US and Mexico illegally, bringing crimes and social burden to many cities. As of late the MS-13, a vicious gang, is raking havoc in cities cross America.

The numbers are staggering. Across America,  state governments are spending huge amount of their budget on illegal aliens in welfares, medical, education and food stamps; not to mention prisoners.  Federal and State prisons are filled with illegal aliens. The over crowding is calling for more prisons to be built, on our expenses!

Fiscal spending – I am speechless on this subject.  US as a nation has spent so much money wastefully during his presidency that it may take generations to pay off, if it happens at all!.  Now with the trillion dollar bailout  which we borrow from the future, we will never be able to pay it up.

I did some research on oil prices between 2000- 2008 which account for the years GWB as president, gasoline was under $23 a barrel in 2000. How much was oil in July 2008, you may ask? $148 a barrel. This is a mind-boggling statistics!  That’s roughly 6 folds!  How did that happen?

The Iraq war and his weak stand- The war should have been declared “over” long time ago, either as victor or loser.  We are dumping Americans hard-earned money into a hell hole where it’s not being appreciated.  Why can’t the Iraqis government pay the US back for the hundred of billions we spent defending them?

Perhaps, all these problems can not be blamed completely on him. But he has the power to veto and lead the nation.  His leadership failed miserably in my opinion. And so, his legacy will be remembered….

<<<(I believe when we decided to invade Iraq, Congress was in the hands of the Republicans>>>

Just one commen: to invade is to intend to overtake and occupy a country by force which is not the case. By force - is true but not invade. How does one expain the fact that US has spend hundred of billions over the past 6 years on this invasion which can not be recouped ? I would say "liberate" more than "invade" in my opinion.
