The use of comma

Hello!

I was wondering if a comma is needed in the 1st sentence below. (I think a comma is essential in the 2nd sentence.) Can anyone please explain if it is needed or if not?

1) White balance: adjust the colour temperature of the camera, depending on the current lighting conditions.

2) White balance: depending on the current lighting conditions, adjust the colour temperature of the camera.

Well if the compound word "White balance" is included in your sentence then the 2nd sentence sould look like;

White balance, depending on the current lightening system, adjust the colour temperature of the camera.

For the first sentence, I am not too much sure. I think it would be better off without a comma.

Jen, the comma certainly works in the first sentence. I'm not sure that it's 100% required, but it is useful and appropriopriate to include it.
