"The moment one inquires about the sense of value of life, one is sick, since objectively neither of them has any existence."

this is quote is by Sigmund Freud

can anyone explain what this quote means.

what i don't understand is the use of the word "neither"? I believe neither to mean there are two something/options and both is out of the question. "not one or the other"

if this is what neither means "not one or the other" than is it "value of live and sickness" which neither has any existence.

any clarifications would be appreciated.

thank you

I'd like more context, which I cannot find on the internet.  If I had to surmise from what you've given us, I'd say the two nonexistent things are sense and value of life.
