You often see it when you are reading about a hotel and what "extras" it offers guests.  You should expect a bed and a shower. But amenities may include a coffee maker in the room, an indoor pool, a little refrigerator, hair dryer, etc.  Or, where I work, in the rest room are little amenities, like anti-static spray, hand lotion, mouthwash, etc.

Does that help?

Hi,

'amenities' can also refer to behaviour. Polite people should observe (ie follow, use) social amenities.

ie the pleasant features of social interchange: good manners, etc.

Best wishes, Clive
