When was the last time you saw a modern play that wasn't pushing some kind of humanist (read leftist or communist) propaganda?
Is this why theater is dying?

If that is the case, then it is quite ironic: half a century ago the Soviets accused theatres of 'cosmopolitanism', and banned Western-influenced plays in the Union. Stalin even went so far as to order the murder of some Jewish playwrights.

Why ironic? Wasn't Stalin a humanist and about as far left as one can get?

I think it's ironic that theatres are pushing an ideology which was connected to the murder of certain playwrights.
