Thanks. But "buses" follows the verb infinitive "be" :

There is/are going to be more buses on this line.          In this sample sentence, "be" remains infinitive regardless the number of the noun that follows.

Did you mean that because "buses" is plural, the "be" that follows "There" should be "are" accordingly? I thought that "buses" is proceeded by "be" infinitive, and thus "buses" does not control the form of "be" in the structure "There be".

Hi Chariot

You asked whether it should be 'is going to be' or 'are going to be', so I'm sure CB meant this:
There are going to be more buses on this line.

That sentence refers to the future.

To refer to a present situation, you could say this:
There are (now) more buses on this line.

Dear Chariot,

Besides 'will' , we also use 'be going to' to express future.

EX:
Now:
- I play ...
- he draws ...
- there is a bus ...
- there are buses ...

Future:
- I am going to play ...
- he is going to draw ...

- there is going to be a bus ...
- there are going to be buses ...

Hope that helps,
Hoa Thai

Thanks, Yankee. I'm too lazy to write complete sentences.

are, because the verb in a there construction must agree in number with the following noun(s).
(going, to, be, and more, which come between the main verb and the noun buses, are not nouns.)

Hence, the correct agreement is as shown below.

There are buses.
There are beautiful buses.
There are very big buses.
There are going to be buses.
There are bound to be buses.
There are sure to be buses.
There are certain to be buses.
There are supposed to be buses.
There are to be buses.
There have to be buses.
There seem to be buses.

There is a bus.
There is a beautiful bus.
There is a very big bus.
There is going to be a bus.
There is bound to be a bus.
There is sure to be a bus.
There is certain to be a bus.
There is supposed to be a bus.
There is to be a bus.
There has to be a bus.
There seems to be a bus.

Thanks everyone. Now I understand that in the "There be" construction, the BE and other verbs that take the place of BE are the main verbs, and the nouns following them agree with them.

Originally I thought  "going to do" can be followed by either plural nouns or singular nouns because "do" stands for a verb infinitive. In the case of the verb "be", its infinitive is BE, which is not affected by the countabilitity of the noun that follows. On this basis, the BE in the "there be" and the noun phrase do not necessarily accord, as "going to be" stands between them and both singular and plural nouns are allowed after "be". Therefore I could not find agreement between "there be" and the nouns when "goin to be" comes in between.
