Today's high temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit is average for this time of year.

Why is there no an article "a" or "the" before the word "year" in this sentence?

Please advise.

I would insert 'the' after 'of'.

Sorry, let me just rephrase my question here:

Why isn't there an article "a" or "the" before the word "year" in this sentence?

It's fine in English to say "at this time of year" or "at this time of day" when you are being very general.  In both cases, you could add 'the' ("at this time of the year"), but you'll more often hear it without.  "At this time of a year" is incorrect".

By the way, would you please give other examples on what is being general?

Can I say...

the turning point of life

the middle of week

the center of earth

without adding an article?

Please advsie.

i think that sentence is not particularly point to any year, as the people upstair said, its in general, and "at the end of a year" sounds really weird, well, its wrong as we know

If I add the following...

Today's high temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit is average for this time of year. The record high for this date is 90 degrees and the record low is 55. What is not average is the unusual amount of rain we have had this fall...

, would I be able to add "a" not "the" before "year"?

Today's high temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit is average for this time of a year.

Please advise.
