"Now, before your eye rolls make you sick, I am just really wondering what scripts compensation can range from and ... movies you never hear about, but just a run of the mill move. Are there any guidelines for these things?"

The most realistic answer is, "The best deal is whatever your agent can negotiatiate." But before you can get an agent, you have to wiite a killer screenplay (agents strongly prefer writers with more than one finsihed and highly marketable script), so it looks like you have your work cut out for you before you can find out what the answers will be to such questions... First sales rarely hit the seven figure mark, but hey, you can pray. First sale scripts rarely hit the six figure mark, but again, you can pray. The reassuring factor behind all of this is that your (future) agent will do everything within his/her power to maximize his/her commission, and that's all you can ask for. So time to go write your masterpiece.

Thanks again to both of you for the insight(s). I guess at this point, I just need to complete my work (I'm about 85% completed) and then have it proofed, copyrighted, find an agent and canvass as much as possible. Phew...Oh yes, followed by prayer! :-)
Thanks again, and if you guys are in the US, have a nice Thanksgiving!

"MC - It sounds like you're very happy with your agent, and believe in their abilities to help you get ... questions. I've gotten paid for a lot of writing over the years, but scripts are completely new territory for me."

Well, there are Guild Minimums, however, that probably doesn't answer your question. However, I wouldn't go into this whole thing without an important story to tell. If your motivation is money, you'd do better investing in Apple. Wait. You should've done that six years ago..

In any case, if you write for a company that's going the direct to Wal- Mart shelf route, you get $75K, no ups, no extras. This is a very lucrative market btw, if you can get your foot in the door to a company that does this..
Hope I've helped a little,
Mike

This is so premature. You need to realize that you'll write several scripts, over the course of several years, before yon can even hope to see money. And by then you'll know all these answers.
