No doubt, it is not an enjoyable situation. Especially French Parliament made a decision in 2001 concerning Armenians and claimed that 1915 incidents constitute genocide despite sharp reactions of Turkey. Barnier told Algeria to make a common effort to search history "in order to establish a common future and overcome the sad pages". Giving interview to El Vatan, an Algerian newspaper, Barnier said that "Historians from two sides must be encouraged to work together. They must work on the common past". For Barnier, this case, of course, is a method that can only be applied for Algerians! Perhaps Barnier does not know Algerian genocide as good as Armenian issue! Otherwise he would have immediately passed a genocide act from France Parliament. Perhaps if his interest area in France was French voters in Algerian origin he would have done this... In 8 May 1945, France army had organized air and land attacks to northern Algeria, mainly to Setif and Guelma cities in order to repress popular demonstrations against France there. While Algerian government claimed that around 45.000 Algerians were killed in the repression which continued for few days, French politicians argued that the number of people who were killed is around 20.000. While French politicians remained in silence against allegations since 1962 in which Algeria gained independence, the first statement towards the recognition of massacres comes this year from French Ambassador in Algeria. Ambassador Hubert Colin de Verdiere visited to Setif on February in order to commemorate those who were killed in massacres and said that Setif massacre is an "unforgiving tragedy". The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Barnier reminded that Ambassador's statement is the French observation and this demonstrated that France has given importance to "memory workings" in relations with Algeria which is a brother country. Addressing to nation in Setif in commemoration ceremonies of 60'th anniversary of massacres, Algerian President Abdülaziz Buteflika said that Algerian people expects from France to take more concrete steps rather than made these remarks. In his statement Buteflika reminded that while Europeans celebrated the victory against Nazi Germany in 8 May 1945, French killed Algerians who went to street for the independence. "Courageous Algerian soldiers faced with French fire when they returned to Algeria from European and African fronts in which they defended the interest and honor of France" he said. While in Algeria it was organized the commemoration ceremonies in weekend, Algerians who live in France also rallied in Paris. Bertrand Delanoe, Paris Mayor said that 8 May is "an anniversary of another barbarism" and that he hoped that France undertakes its responsibility. Didier Billion, Deputy President of Paris-based The Institute for Strategic and International Relations pointed out that none of French Presidents made an official apology for incidents in Algeria so far. He referred to French silence against allegations and said that "Algeria is our taboo". Another issue against which French government remained in silence is Rwanda genocide in which more than 800 thousand people were killed. France has not accepted the claims that French soldiers in the region had responsibility in genocide committed in Rwanda in 1994. Finally, in last month an ex-French military officer who was formerly in Rwanda admitted that French soldiers had provided military training to civil militants of Hutus who are accused to commit genocide. Thierry Prungnaud, former Deputy Commander of National Gendarmerie Intervention Group who was in the region to provide military training the guards of Rwanda Presidency in 1992 said in France-Culture, an official radio that he saw French soldiers giving fire-arms training civil Rwandan militiamen in 1992 and this training had continued until 1994. On the other hand in February, six Rwandans citizens applied to Paris Military Court on the ground that French soldiers are ""accomplice" in genocide committed in 1994. It is reported that it will take a long time for the Military Court which is the only judicial body to have jurisdiction right to judge French soldiers on duty to deal with the file. Meanwhile Amar Bakhouche, the speaker of the Algerian Senate said in AB Haber.com that France insisted not to apologize for Algerians who were killed in 8 May 1945, “France firstly must clean in front of his own house. Armenian genocide allegations have claimed against Turkey as an excuse. A Muslim population is not wanted in the EU". "These things committed by Frances are called "genocide", but they have been tried to be described in another manner in France" he said. Saying that "1.5 million Algerians were killed by colonists in the years in which Algeria struggled for independence", Amar Bakhouche pointed out that, France has not apologized to Algeria despite all efforts. ...

Hi guys. I'd like you to share me,your opinions about this point please!! So many people are still confused about the true meaning of love!! Those who don't like it call it responsibility, Those who play with it call it a game, Those who don't have it call it dream. But some other people who understand it call it destiny !! Is that true?? Definitly Wrong coz the true love can never be described , No one ever can describe the true love , coz it's a great feelings hidden in the heart. How can we feel the true love ?? we feel it , when we feel a flame in our heart whenever we miss our lovers. we feel it , if we fall in love whenever we see our lovers, we also feel it , when we get hurt by our lovers. if we don't get hurt by our lovers then our love is definitely fake. Finally love without hurt doesn't call love at all. Waitin' for your opinions !! LAYA&MOM

China economic power is increasingly on the rise. Whether it will be able to establish a cultural egemony as well, is up for debate. In , the author makes a case against Chinese language as the future lingua franca . Here's what he says: I don't know Chinese, yet I sense that he's right. English stood out and spread because of its comparative easiness. Its morphology and syntax are comparatively simple and you can make yourself understood quite quickly, even if your vocabulary is limited, and your pronunciation and your grammar are poor. What's more, the writing system is way easier to learn and use. What do you think? Are we bound to speak Chinese in the future or will we stick to English (or maybe switch to Spanish)?...

Hi everybody. Enjoy learning English.                  Teamwork. There are four people named Everybody , Somebody , Anybod y, and Nobody . There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody 's job. Everybody thought Anybody could it But Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Hi i first heard this song when I saw the film:'Click'. Its name is' Making love out of nothing at all'. I have liked it since then. I like the melody and I found the lyrics meaningful. I have always thought that' making love out of nothing at all' in this song means: to make a love from nothing at all. But unfortunately, yesterday when I looked up in the' oxford dictionary for advanced learners', 'make love' has only one meaning:' to have sex'! So the phrase means: 'to have sex for no reason'? In my culture, it is quite offensive if you use that word in a song.. I was really disappointed and upset, as with that meaning the song means almost nothing to me. Moreover,in my opinion, if that phrase refers to 'have sex', it doesn't match with the rest of the song. Could you please tell me what does the phrase and the song mean. I really don't want to be rude, i just want to know exactly what the artist want to say. Here is the lyrics Artist: Air Supply Song title: Making Love Out Of Nothing At All Lyric: I know just how to whisper and I know just how to cry; I know just where to find the answers; and I know just how to lie. I know just how to fake it and I know just how to scheme; I know just when to face the truth And then I know just when to dream. And I know just where to touch you and I know just what to prove I know when to pull you closer and I know when to let you loose. And I know the night is fading and I know that time's gonna fly; And I'm never gonna tell you ev'rything I've got to tell you But I know I've got to give it a try. And I know the roads to riches and I know the ways to fame; I know all the rules and then I know how to break them And I always know the name of the game. But I don't know how to leave you and I'll never let you fall; And I don't know how you do it making love out of nothing at all. Making love - out of nothing at all Making love - out of nothing at all Making love - out of nothing at all Making love - out of nothing at all. . . . Ev'ry time I see you all the rays of the sun Are streaming through the waves in your hair; And ev'ry star in the sky is taking aim at your eyes Like a spotlight. The beating of my heart is a drum And it's lost and it's looking for a rhythm like you. You can take the darkness from the pit of the night And turn into a beacon burning endlessly bright. I've got to follow it 'cause ev'rything I know Well it's nothing 'til I give it to you. I can make the run or stumble I can make the final block; And I can make every tackle at the sound of the whistle I can make all the stadiums rock. I can make tonight forever Or I can make it disappear by the dawn; And I can make you every promise That has ever been made And I can make all your demons be gone. With god I'll never gonna make it without you Do you really want to see me crawl ? And I never gonna make it like you do Making love out of nothing at all. Making love - out of nothing at all . . . Making love - out of nothing at all . . . Making love - out of nothing at all...

could some one explain to me if am being to repetitive. or if my essay has any really validity. about the issue of youth /violence and parent responsibility. Shifting the blame society’s solution I believe that the media has little to do with the increase in youth violence. Too many people try to lay the blame of their actions on someone or something else. I do believe that there are more than a few steps that should be taken to eliminate violence. The main factor that’s to blame for teen violence is role the parent play’s in their children's lives and personal responsibility. Consequences should be more effectively carried out. Alternatives to violence should be encouraged and practiced on a greater scale. The process of discouraging violence should begin at home. Parents should raise their children with the values and morals to act responsibly and take the blame for their own actions. Parents should act in a manner that reflects this theory. Most people can control their actions and refrain from violent acts. If parents encourage better behavior then children will carry out this behavior throughout their adult lives. When people see violence in the media, they are often shown that there are no consequences of violence. People know the difference between reality and fantasy. In reality, there are consequences, however, they are not always as strict as they could be. People should be aware of these consequences, and they should take responsibility for their own actions. My next point of view is that if consequences were in forced more, then this would discourage people from resorting to violence. When people see that others are being punished for their negative actions they will see that "crime doesn't pay." This will prevent more people from committing these crimes and violent acts. People are entertained by violence. Media show what audiences are interested in. I think that there is no harm in this. This is when the concept of reality and fantasy become involved. People know that when they are watching these programs they are fake or fantasy. People watch these programs to escape from the real world and retreat to a world of make-believe. When people get a grasp on themselves though, they are returned to the real world where consequences occur. There are many alternatives to violence. Classes are offered for anger management. When someone becomes upset and feels like turning to violence they should try several activities to calm down. When people sit down and talk to someone about their feelings, often the tendency to become violent lessens. Another thing that people can try is to write down their feelings. This would work if there isn't anyone around to talk to. Often times, nothing is accomplished through violence. When you talk about problems it is more likely that a solution will occur. I think that people are too irresponsible to accept their own responsibility for their actions. If parents would teach and show their children responsible behavior this would some what eliminate the problem of violence. If people are shown other methods of self-discipline this would also eliminate violence. Media are forms of entertainment and are not meant to be an example of real human conduct. Media entertainment is an escape from reality. People need to start taking the blame for their own actions and stop blaming it on the media. The media is not forcing consumers to act violently and commit crimes. The media does not teach moral values. Moral values are basic fundamental that are taught and that every individual must live by. There has been a worldwide rebellion in the perception of moral values in recent years, involving profound changes in the way people think and act. The communications media has played and continues to play a key role in this process of individual and social change as they establish and reflect new attitudes and life-styles. The rate of violence against youth ages twelve to fifteen, however, has increased substantially since 1988. The theory of juvenile violence involves exposure to and support of violence in the home, ineffective parental supervision, weak family bonding and the acquisition of values which support the use of violence. The risk factors found to be specific for juvenile violence have been organized into five areas. Community factors include: availability of firearms; community laws and norms favorable toward drug use; firearms and crime; media portrayals of violence; low neighborhood, failing economy. There are many theories as to why violent juvenile crime is on the rise in the United States. Some theorists state that it is the collapse of the family unit, while others say it is violence in the media or the environment in which a child is raised. Actually, it is a combination of many varied internal and external forces. But first, one must go to the beginning, to the very root of a child’s age of self-awareness. Children are born with the capacity to learn. Hate, envy, racism, selfishness; these traits are not instinctive, rather, they are learned. It does not matter where anti-social traits are initially experienced, whether it is found in the home, or school, or even in the nursery, the results are the same. Children that are exposed to violence at an early age could have a propensity towards violent behavior as they mature. Children must be shown that violent behavior is not acceptable, and traits, such as compassion, are acceptable. Too many children today are left alone or unsupervised by guardians and parents. In today’s society, it is a common trend for both the mother and father to work. Young children are many times left in the care of schools, friends, neighbors, and relatives or the ( television). In these cases children behave in ways that imitate real life. Children observe violence on television, at their school, or at home. In a child’s eyes, violence is an acceptable behavior because it is observed as being acceptable. It is vital that young children are guided and taught the differences between right and wrong. In a perfect society, this is all well and good. Unfortunately, perfect societies do not exist. If the core basic moral structure of a child’s undeveloped personality is firmly established, there is a very good chance that violence will not be a part of that child’s adult future. Many child psychiatrists have found that a child becomes self aware around six years of age. The first five years of a person’s life is sometimes referred to as the “age of innocence.” Too many children today have never experienced the age of innocence. These children more often become adults with developed undesirable anti-social behaviors. A very high percentage of violent adolescents were found to have had come from a disturbed and sometimes violent home life. When these same adolescents were asked if they could recall happy moments in early childhood, most could not recall any. Most certainly, the violence seen on television, in films, in newspapers and periodicals only amplified the acceptance of violent behavior. In order for society to find a way to control violent youth, society must start with the newborn generation, and continue working with each successive newborn generation, until instances of violent behavior begin to subside. Our Rochesterian Mayor, William Johnson has been busy meeting with dozens of community leaders to seek long-term solutions. Still, he should keep in mind that there are already viable plans moving forward to attack the systemic problems associated with youth violence. It is vitally important that he convene a strong message of a uncompromising city unwilling to accommodate violent behavior . Our local elected officials plan to map an implementation strategy that has widespread support. Mayor Johnson knows better than most the wastefulness of duplication.. This solution would require understanding and participation of all parties involved. This would mean Federal and local governments, schools, churches, day care centers, and ultimately, both parents. The solution could take years, even decades to implement. But it must be done soon if we ever expect to see a change in our youth within our life time.

I saw a very long thread about this topic, and I wanted to set the record completely straight. You will notice that I mentioned ENGLISH LANGUAGE in the subject. Unless someone can give us a reliable definition for the extremely long finnish word I believe we should refrain from discussing it. The main debate appears to be whether PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCONIOSIS is a legitimate word, as it was coined simply to make a new longest word but has a real definition. Many have said that FLOCCINAUCINIHILIPILIFICATION is the longest REAL word, because of previously stated complication with PNEU..., which is described as "factitious", meaning artificial. However, it appears in four respectable dictionaries and as I have said, has a real definition. Because it is "real" enough to be actually used in conversation (although maybe only at medical colleges) I believe it has enough status to be considered a real word, and thus, the longest word in the english language. Chemical names should be thrown out of the question. Seeing as they are basically combinations of many different amino acids, proteins, enzymes and the like, they are not really words but more letter combinations. Antidisestablishmentarianism is a word commonly cited as an example of the longest english word. However, it is shorter than FLOCCI... or PNEUM... which obviously makes it NOT the longest. Some say smiles is the longest because there is a mile between each S. Also, Someone suggested beleaguered, because a league is longer than a mile. Both are true and interesting interpretations (thank you very much to all of those who suggested these), but the thread was asking for longest by letter count, so neither of these count (yes, I may be too thorough). A very interesting link to a page about many of the vowel, syllable, etc. debate, as I do not want to bother with them, is: So there you have it. I hope this is definitive as to the longest word in the english language. Feel free to post back, but please give me a sensible response, and this discussion is NOT about place names, foreign words, or chemical names, so do not use those. Thank you

Due to health reasons, a friend of mine lives on Gran Canaria in wintertime. He said there was a note in English he didn't quite understand on the wall in his apartamentos . As I am interested in English, I asked him to write it down and show it to me. This piece of information is given to the guests: One communicates to the gentlemen clients, who the cleaning of the apartment will be made daily, except Thursdays and Sundays. I understand that the apartment is cleaned five times a week but I am at a loss as to the beginning of the sentence. Any ideas? CB

I have heard lot of people started relationship as a friend ends up with love. So I would like to know the difference between these two. Is it acceptable being a friend for certain period and then become a lover afterwards?. Does it not amount to injuring friendship?. At the same time, one cannot love a person with out having friendship. Then, What would be the intention of the person who becomes a lover when he started his relationship as a good friend? Can I say that the person is cunning or wolf in sheep skin?. Because he hid his true motive. Whatever he did was to cheat the other person?. Explain please. I am confused. MSN.

More than 1/5 world population can speak Chinese! :-D) - French (I love reading French novels since I was a child) - Italian (Actually, I learnt a little bit Italian many years ago, now I don't remember anything but I think if I learn Italian, it would come back to me soon) Uhm... Could you please suggest me which language I should learn? I can choose 1 only! :-( I hope I have 100 hours a day to study all these languages! But of course, I don't have! Which should I choose? I really appreciate all your suggestions! ^_^ Cheers, - Tammy ...
