Hello, all,

Here's a question for touch-typers: with which finger do you type 0 (zero) and ALT and WINDOWS keys?

Thanks in advance,
Anton

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'

I hit zero - and usually miss the first time - with my "ring finger."

I usually hit ALT with my left pinky. The same with the Windows key.

 What about you?

Mr. Micawber: your omnipotent forefinger? Do you mean you use it for all the keys ;)

Grammar Geek: Although the classical technique commands to use the little finger for that, I also find it more comfortable to press zero with my ring (Nameless in Russian) finger. Maybe my little finger is too short, so I need to shift the whole palm to help it reach the destination key...

Note sure which finger is the pinky... The little one?

As for me, I incline to use the litte finger for thr CTRL and Windows keys, and the ring finger for ALT...

I developed a bad typing habit, which is to use the pinky (the little finger) of whichever hand is also used to make the capital, rather than the pinky of the opposite hand, as we were taught to do. Since the result of that bad habit is a familiarity with positioning my hand "incorrectly" to make the right key combination, using the pinky for ALT+letter combos and Windows+letters combos seems pretty natural. Though the only windows command I use is the +E one.

I see. You stick with bad habits automatically unless you pay enough attention to the acquisition of good ones ;) Same for me, I tend to press SHIFT and SPACE with the wrong hand... But I am only learning, so I hope I can get rid of it before it roots firmly among my reflexes.

You mean you were tought to touch type in school??

And, I am still wondering which finger is it really correct to use for pressing ALT and WINDOWS...

Well, Ant, seeing as how I can reach typing speeds of up to 90 wpm, and in the upper 70s when corrected for errors, I'm not too worried about my bad habits.

Well, that's amazing! How long did it take you to get that fast at typing? And how intensively did you excersize?

Ant, I sit at keyboard all day long. It's what I do. Bear in mind, my speeds are a lot slower if I have to type words I'm not that familiar with or words that have tricky spellings and I have to stop to think how to spell them. When I can simply think a common word and have it appear on the screen, it's a lot faster than words that require thinking about, like sillouette.
