With the ascension of Josiah, Manasshe's grandson, Judah enters a new era, in the development of Yahwistic faith.
(From old testament) I have difficulty in understanding 'in~'.
about how Judah entering a new era is connected with the development of Yahwistic faith.
And what does it mean if it is written ' in developing (of?) Yahwistic faith'?

Hi,
With the ascension of Josiah, Manasshe's grandson, Judah enters a new era, in the development of Yahwistic faith.
(From old testament) I have difficulty in understanding 'in~'.
about how Judah entering a new era is connected with the development of Yahwistic faith.Do you think an English Forum is the best place to ask what seems to be a religious question?  (:)) Smile

And what does it mean if it is written ' in developing (of?) Yahwistic faith'? Is this another religious question? Or are you just asking about the meaning of the word 'develop'?

Best wishes, Clive

I am not asking questions with the purpose of knowing about religion in this forum at all.
I just can't understand this sentence.
When I see a sentence with "in", I think about inside, or situations as shown in dictionary, and I had a hard time understanding this sentence with in. Just want to know what this sentence means first. Could you clarify for me?
Thanks...Happy

“With the ascension of Josiah, Manasshe's grandson, Judah enters a new era, in the development of Yahwistic faith.

This turns out to be a very interesting question. I had no trouble understanding the meaning but trying to find a quote from a dictionary proved harder that I expected. I finally found this: during the course of
The "new era" is entered into "during the course of" the development of Yahwistic faith."

Saying "in developing Yahwistic faith" conveys the wrong meaning, it implies that the development is under human control, which of course it is not.
Saying "in the development of..." implies that the development is proceeding without human intervention.

" I was late in getting home"
'in' in this sentence also means " in the course of(during?)?
but it makes no sense to me with 'during'
Does it simply mean 'I got home late'?

"It relied on the judicial and legislative systems in what would be a persistent and decades-long effort to secure those     rights."
Is 'in an effort' interchangeable with 'in making an effort' in the sentence above?

  Thank you.

"I was late in getting home"
How should i understand this meaning? Should I apply 'in the course of (during)' for 'in' ?
But it seems to make no sense. Is it like I was going home, and it was already late?

"It relied on the judicial and legislative systems in what would be a persistent and decades-long effort to secure those rights."  'in an effort' is interchangeable with ' in making an effort'???

I see sentences like " The first edition ended in 2Kings with a description of Joshua's retaking of part of the promised land."
Then, for example, in a sentence 'I had  problem in understanding (of) English sentences', should i add  of too?
Can't I just say Joshua's retaking part of the promised land  without 'of'  without the before 'retaking'?
I see sentences like ' I had no opportunity of getting a high education' without of between 'getting' and 'a high education'.
I am confused with when i should use it or not. Is there some kind of formula?

Thank you...

I understand it like: Judah enters a new era, an era which is in the development of Yahwistic faith.
