i am in trouble with similar words in English. not only because of EnglishTurkish dictionaries but even in English English dictionaries i can find the clues to differ similar words.

some examples;

cry,weep,wail  ( and maybe sob but as far as i know it happens with hiccups. am i right? )

wish,beg,implore,bessech,plead,entreat

assert,claim

these  came to my mind now.but i encounter with hundreds of them. is there a dictionary or source to differ similar words?what is your advice?

Try Longman's Lexicon, or some books on building up the vocabulary that includes charts on in which senses they are different. There are plenty of these books. Unfortunately, I'm not at home to have a look at the titles I have; I'll post them later.
