Two questions

It is essential to write whether tourist guides speak English nowadays. You find guides who take you on a bus tour around a city. The place where the toursit get information should not write the following:

1a]  We speak English here.

I think to write the above is not standard English and it should be the following:

1b]  English are spoken here.

Would you agree?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next question is about a tiny shop where you buy newspapers, cigarettes, etc. The following is not standard English.

2a] We are selling cigarettes here.

The above should be:

2b] The cigarettes are sold here.

I would like to hear from you all on these two questions.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'

Mister Micawber.

I am sorry. It was a mistake. Please remove it.

Sometimes my browser plays hell. Things disappears and I get the feeling that the message has gone astray. This forces me to post again.
