I found 'under way','in progress','afoot'have almost identical meaning,how to distinguish them?

"Afoot" is rarely used.

A project is in progress, a party is under way.

Can you write a few sentences in which you're not sure which one you'd use and we can tell you if one would sound more natural than the other?
