"a crack" is adverbial??
Maybe "I'll open a crack" really is intransitive, in the sense of, "I'll open myself." - (expose myself by opening the door)

Hi,
Just open a crack.
Okay, I'll open a crack.
(Could this be eliptical? i.e., stuff is missing??)
Yes. 'It' (ie the door) is often included. I think
'by the amount of
a crack' is also understood but not stated.
Just open it
(by the amount of)
a crack.
Okay, I'll open it
(by the amount of)
a crack.
Best wishes, Clive
