Anonymous:I have two questions.
Is it uniform police officer, or uniformed police officer?
Is is plainclothes officer, or plain-clothed officer?
Does it matter? Are they interchangeable words?
(I sometimes hear "plainclothes officer" used casually by native speakers.)
This dictionary has no entry for "plainclothed" or "plain-clothed". (And I don't believe I've ever heard that word.)
CalifJimI don't believe I've ever heard that word. Thanks for the correction, Jim. Google doesn't like it either!
