I think, the eu is going to fall, what's the point of the eu?  The countries that belong to eu have different goals, they're dealing with different problems, have different priorities. The state of their economic is pretty diffrenet. They are shared by language and culture. The US is a completely different story, and , even though some people compare the eu to the usa, are many differences, and few similarities (if any). People in America in 18th century had their common goal, they were looking from freedom, they came from countries ruled by monarchs, some of them were opressed etc. They were all new in America. The situation in Europe is completely different. If Israel (a country in the middle of Europe?) or Turkey joints the eu maybe we should rename it for th WU ( world union), and invite all the countires in world to jont the eu, than we will have what we had before the eu was established.

Ahiska Turks(dismissed from Kirim and exiled to Siberia), Cechens(persecuted ), Krygizs,Tajiks...(Asia Turks)(have been tried to be assimilated in terms of religion and culture and it is still carrying on, Russia was a power with its natural resources but after the dissolution of Soviets the reserves remained in the areas of these and Russia is trying to keep them in and impeding the improvement of relations by Turkey and other Turks) and so on. I have much more things to say about Russia but it is off topic as you know. If you wish we can lead to a new topic about this matter.

To anon, I dont think Europeans are welcome to Turkey. The leaders are sitting on the fence. They both dont want to lose Turkey and dont want to accept such a big country. So they are delaying the date steadily.By the way, according to polls from here ,Turkey, the trust of people to union and their desire for membership are plummeting dramatically. It seems that the hypocrisy of EU will induce the goverment to seek for new ways.

Well, Janyssary, I see you like Russia a lot. Smile [:)] But sush feelings usually prevent people from looking at the facts more or less objectively... I am not going to start a new topic and argue there as I don't have so much time to narrate you the world and Russia's history. If you are really interested in that, you can learn it yourself (by the way, don't forget to analyse Russia's minerals map then Wink [;)]).

I live in Switzerland, and they are the most democratic group of people I have ever met.  Sure there is dischord and disharmony, but on the whole the country runs very efficiently.  They have regular referendums on lots of topics, and generally the govt listens to the people on what they want.  It is a country with four main languages and a few very distinct social codes of practice.  But the Confederation of Helvetia was founded upon the principles that the majority of us would like to abide by, but our respective governments refuse to ask us what we actually think.

The Swiss are currently refusing to join the EU because they cannot see the benefits of doing so.  I cannot blame them. What are the benefits of joining the EU?  We could make a list.  But none of them would really apply to all of us.  Do the Brits want to be governed by a Central European Government?  The Brits cant even agree on who is going to govern Britain.  Scotland and Wales want devolution and Northern Ireland is still a prickly subject.

There are too many cultural differences in Europe for it to become unified.  But the governments of the today will try and force it upon us so that making money is easier.  Europe is all about making money.  The smarties amongst the people realise that the European Union is a huge market for making money.  But the rest of the populace would like to fill their rice bowl, and take it home.  Not bothering with all of the beauracracy that surrounds doing anything that is remotely European.

Some reason i dont think you quite know where your getting to. The EU has formed great economics ties, making trade within the euro zone improve. And why are you talking about Isreal and Turkey? As far as i can see, Europe has a great diverse culture, and most importantly histroy. The french and germans used to hate each other, and some how they have got on well together. They all go their own priorities, but they all stand to gain. the EU is a trading block, and nothing more. just like NAFTA. and if america is so great? how come they joined the WTO, with is used to remove trade barriers, and then set up an illegal steel tariff? the bush administration only removed that after recieving pressure from US car manufacturers. Seeking freedom? more like personal gain!

The EU will ever just "fall" it has if anything, become more integrated.. take a look at the single curency? freedom of movement between some of the countries, etc. Get your head out of the sand before you speak.

To paraphrase Eli Wallach, "if the EU had not wanted them to be sheared, it would not have made them sheep".
