Although broken, it shall always exist and surround us, don't like to be confined in them and they shall outlive us all. What are "they"?

I don't know the answer myself, I was told this one. Post if you have anything that matches the riddle.

Hello, hmm, interesting question...couldn't it be something like time, hours or years? Huh? [:^)]

We aren't confined in time, and people of the Golden Age liked being in their time period, so they liked being confined in it.

Why not? Time can be 'broken' into e.g.years, hours, minutes, etc. and i think
we can say we are surrounded in time because it's everywhere around us - i mean
we live in a certain age (time) and time 'borders' our lives.

"We aren't confined in time, and people of the Golden Age liked being in their time period, so they liked being confined in it. "

Why not? I think we are confined in time, because you cannot choose what time you will live in and your life is bordered with certain time so we can say we are confined in it. Doesn't matter if you like the time period or not.

According to the riddle it does matter. Is time a "They"?

Hmm, well, time isn't "they", but e.g. years could be "they". I don't know. I just
wanted to try to help you as time was the first thing that came to my mind and
as I thought it could be the answer. Yes, it can be completely wrong but
you could ask the person who told you the riddle. You could give it a shot.

And I might have misunderstood the riddle as well. (since I'm not a native speaker)

I have one question: Why is there "it" in the first part of the question and
"they" in the second part? Huh? [:^)]
