Now, the hottest issue in USA is "Illegal Immigration" and "Immigration Reform Bill". The legal foreign workers who get Visa, like H1B Visa, come to USA and wait for nearly six years to get Green cards or to become immigrants. Now, the US Government is proposing an amnesty program that would make illegal immigrants as legal immigrants if they had illegally entered into USA in the past five years. It is quite surprising that illegal immigrants can become legal immigrants in 5 years, but the law-abiding, tax-paying, legal workers--who are legal residents but not immigrants-- need to wait up to six years to become immigrants. It is equally estimated that USA would suffer 30% loss in production if all 12 million illegal immigrants are deported back to their countries. Did US Government take right decision? What is your thought on this issue?

I don't think this is a right decicion,as a matter of fact American population is made by immigrants,of all kinds..english,irish,dutch,italians,asians,russians,whites,blacks,yellows,reds,blu with violet stripes, there's a little piece of them in every single american..so why should they be considered mere illegal immigrants and not a way to empower the country?..

The illegal immigrants are the people who enter into USA through borders illegally; mostly, through the western borders--Arizona,Texas, California,etc.-- of America.

I know..we've the same problem here in Italy, they come from the sea,but if they come in my country this means that there's something wrong in their country,so why do to refuse them, only because they're too poor to make the passport,or only because they are clandestines?!..why are they considered ugly, bad, without any will to work?!There are a lot of illegal immigrants that are honest and need to work,to grow up their children, and to get better their future..these people need an help, for sure.

Your thoughts are quite interesting, although my take on this issue is totally different. I am curious to see what Americans think about this hot issue.

I am not an American, Rishonly. So do you want to hear my opinion?.. ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
Anyway, I am against the legalization.

I wonder why they come to another country (where all is provided, by the way) instead of developing their own countries.

I am an american living in Texas. Parts of the new law I agree with and some parts I do not. Under the new law if an illegal immigrant can prove that they have been in the country for two years they will be allowed to stay. This is rediculous, successfully breaking one law should not make you exempt from another. Also under the new law any person including preists and doctors who knows of or advises an illegal immigrant would be a felon. The law should not prevent a public servant from doing the job they have sworn to do. For an illegal immigrant to say they have civil rights here is absurd. If I went to any country illegally I would be arrested and deported. In many countries americans are harrased just for looking american or speaking english. Mexicans are not harrased by law enforment here or randomly asked to prove their citizenship. The law is even more rediculous concerning cubans (of which a great many come to Florida). Any cuban that successfully makes it to america is allowed to stay but any that are stopped at sea are deported.

I agree with you and that's my thought too, Ruslana. My questions to anyone who supports naturalizing illegal immigrants:
(1) USA spends billions of dollars every year to provide the basic services, like education and medical services, to these 12 million illegal immigrants. More specifically, the state of Arizona spends one billion dollar per year to support the illegal immigrants. Where does the money come from? Obviously, from tax payers' pockets. Why should the law-abiding American citizens should pay their money to illegal immigrants?
(2) About 29% of inmates in US jails are illegal immigrants who have been arrested for felony charges. Who would pay money to feed these inmates? Again, it is tax payers's money.
(3) If one thinks that US should allow illegal immigrants--who sneak into the country through borders--, just because they are poor and just based on humanitarian reasons , then what is the purpose of Visas, passports, Immigration and Naturialization, etc?

Illegal immigrants broke the USA's laws. Actually they are criminals. Okay then. Let's legalize other criminals: murderers, narcotic sellers, etc. Why not, after all? It should be the next motion if we follow that logic.
