I always confuses in using its and it's apostrophes !

Tell me which one i use correct apostrophe it's or should i use its in the following sentences?

1.She enjoyed the movie and told me it's scenery reminded her of her hometown.

2.You really ought to take up fly-fishing---it's a very relaxing hobby.

3.This is a fine piece of furniture, and it's merits speak for themselves.

It's is for IT IS.

If you rewrite those sentences and substitute "it is" for each of the "it's" will you have sentences that make sense?

Think of its the same way you do his and hers, to show possession.

But Its show which possession ?

He ~ his; she ~ her; [non-person] ~ its
I cannot see the mountain.  It's covered by a cloud, and its base is barely visible.

What can be confusing is that we use the 's to show possession after a person's name:
"John's coming tonight" [John is coming] can be written, and often spoken, the same way as "John's book is on the table" [he owns the book].

I think you've understood it. Its is always possessive. It's is always short for either it is or it has.

1. She enjoyed the movie and told me it is scenery reminded her of her hometown. Not make sense. You are right 'it is/it's does not make sense here. So it is possession and should be its. The movie's scenery = its scenery.

2.You really ought to take up fly-fishing---it is a very relaxing hobby. It makes sense. Correct, so you'd use 'it's' here.

3.This is a fine piece of furniture, and it is merits speak for themselves. Not make sense   . You are right so see sentence one comment.

4.She wants to study music in all of it is various genres.  Neither this sentense make sense.. You are right so see sentence one comment.
