Clark: I don't have a crush on Lana.

Pete: Then why don't you ask some other girl out?

Clark: Like who?

Pete: Like Chloe?

Chloe: Okay, wait! I'm not some crash test dummy you guys can use to try out your dating skills on. You,

if you like Lana so much, why don't you just ask her out and get it over with. And you, stop acting like a

Vegas bookie picks your dates. And both of you, treat me better.

What does the underlined refer to? Basically she says "stop acting like a matchmaker", right?

I'm actually having trouble with this one. A bookie is someone who takes bets. Gambling is legal in Las Vegas, so "a Vegas bookie" is a clear reference to gambling and odds, but I don't understand the allusion.

Barbara, who answers in American English. My housekeeping skills attest to the truth of the second law of thermodynamics: Left to themselves, things get more and more random!
